The Bachelor: The One With the New Girl

Episode 3 of The Bachelor. We're down to 16 girls. First things first, we meet Ben's sister, Julia. She is excited for him to meet his new girlfriend/fiance/wife. She actually said she was anxious for him to be engaged, which made me laugh. Wouldn't she want him to be married, not engaged? But I digress. He says she would like a lot of the girls, including Courtney. Um. Okay. We'll see.

First one on one date, and it goes to Emily! She immediately says she's afraid of heights. Hmm. Wonder if their date will have something to do with heights. Indeed it does - they're climbing the Golden Gate Bridge. On Chris Harrison's blog, he said the thing about that was that there's no going back down. You have to keep going up. After a few hiccups and a few kisses, they make it to the top.

While they're on the date, the girls actually can see them with their telescope. They also get the card for their 11 on one date (I'm ready for there to be less girls so this number can start being less ridiculous). The girls going on the date are: Blakeley, Casey S, Elyse, Jamie, Kacie B, Monica, Nicki, Rachel, Samantha, Erika, and Jaclyn. Casey S was saying she really wanted a date, so when the camera showed the card, I paused it to see if she was on it (and write down who was so I didn't have to speed type as they called out names) and saw Casey S was pretty high on the list. But when she called them out, she left her until very last. Way to try to be dramatic, Bachelor.

Emily and Ben end their date with dinner and fireworks. After they share some other stories about themselves and their dating history, Ben gives Emily a rose. I really don't see the two of them ending up together, but I guess anything is possible.

The 11 girls and Ben are going on a date to cross something off his leap list - they're going skiing in SanFran. Um. Okay, whatever. They also go skiing in their bikinis. I don't understand this, because what if they fall down? It's going to be super cold. A few of the girls have a hard time with the skiing, but they're having fun. Then they have a cocktail party, and the final date card is given out back at the apartment.

The last one on one date goes to Brittney. She is not that happy about it, and I guess getting the opportunity to hang out with him makes her realize she doesn't really want to be there anymore. She goes downstairs to the cocktail party and tells Ben she's leaving. Wow. Wonder what her grandma will say.

After the Brittney craziness, Ben goes ahead and gives the group date rose to Rachel, who had tried really hard to get it. To replace Brittney's date, he's now going to take Lindzi on a date. He takes her around SanFran on a tour and they go to City Hall for a private concert from Matt Nathanson. He then takes her to a speak easy and they have drinks. After they talk some about why she's still single, he gives her the rose.

Rose ceremony time! All the women are trying to get a final word with him, even Courtney. Courtney and some of the other girls get into a little argument, but quickly are distracted by Shawntel showing up. Yep. Shawntel. From the last Bachelor. Apparently her and Ben met at some point and really hit it off. Just saying, this seems a little desperate. And Ben seems shocked. She says she'll stay for the rose ceremony and he can decide what to do. To say the other women are pissed is an understatement. They are super mad.

Actual rose ceremony time! The women get roses in the following order:
Courtney
Kacie B.
Elyse
Jamie
Jennifer
Casey S.
Blakeley
Monica
Nicki
Samantha

He now has the final rose, and in case you don't feel like figuring it out, we now have Erika, who has received the 8th and 5th rose before, Jaclyn (15th and 4th rose), and Shawntel of course. He thinks about it for a few seconds, and decides he's not giving out the rose at all. I thought Erika and Shawntel were a little crazy, so that was fine, but I questioned getting rid of Jaclyn. I'm sure he had his reasons though.

We're down to 13 girls, and everyone has been on at least one date.

Gold star of the week goes to Lindzi. She broke the curse of the first impression rose, and though she wanted a date this week, she was genuinely accepting of Brittney getting the final one on one. When she ultimately got that date, she was so excited to do anything with Ben, and seemed to really enjoy herself. She also didn't insert herself into the drama of that last night, which always impresses me.
